What inspires adventure? The exploration of Adam Combs has been one of the most inspiring as of late. Currently in Peru, Combs and his crew are… ahem… cycling around the world. After chatting with him via Instagram, we were hooked on his exploration. TreeEra was fortunate enough to be able to share not only some of his photos, but his stories along with them. Enjoy:
“It’s been 167 days since I left home and the trip is not even half over. Embarking on this bike trip has probably been one of the best decisions I’ve made and the journey thus far has been nothing short of amazing. Everyday is like school without the classroom. Always learning. Always encountering. Always moving. And being able to do it in ways that fuel my passions, that’s a sure blessing. Reading, writing, capturing, seeing, listening, being. To have an endlessly changing horizon and for every day to have a new and different sun. Here’s a shot @finlayburrage sneakily took of me just doing what I love, creating stuff and runnin’ wild.”
“It’s crazy. Since the beginning of the trip I’ve been in this state of constant nostalgia. I frequently find myself flipping through old journal entries and venturing back into the photo archives. I don’t know whether it’s because I’m thousands of kilometers away from any family or friends, or if it’s due to the fact that our end goal seems so far away. Although, it’s not in the typical, wistful way where I wish I could go back in time. As long as it’s not at the expense of being present, I think it’s a healthy state. It’s helped me realize which things in life really matter and has given me a deeper appreciation for the place we so impetuously call home.”
“Hiking through mountains with these insane views is great and all, but it makes my heart sad knowing that these glaciated valleys were once filled with ice. It’s strange, this world. We love forests, yet we chop them down. We enjoy bright colored lakes and rivers, yet we dam them. We take delight in vast blue skies, yet we pollute them. How does that make any sense? All these excursions out into natures heart shouldn’t just result in making us feel good or in us getting that amazing photo. It should change us. Deeply move us. Get us so stoked on the beauty of this earth that it makes us revise the way we think about conserving it.”
Thank you, Adam, for sharing these amazing images and stories. From all of us here at TreeEra, we wish you thorough enjoyment in the rest of your exploration. Adventure on!
