What was your reason for working with TreeEra to plant trees? How do trees fit into Green Soul Grace’s mission?

TreeEra’s community-centered, positive attitude to climate change mitigation was what drew me in! As well as the ease of integration and impeccable communication. The simple, result-driven setup was very appealing as I had checked out some other organizations for tree planting but was put off with the over-complicated websites and process.

Green Soul Grace was created to explore what conscious living really means, in the most holistic, inclusive, and accessible way. I do this through plant-based recipes, DIY projects, a podcast, as well as information, and musings, and commentary on just about everything in my blog.

The shop is part of this; to offer beautifully hand-crafted and carefully sourced products that are designed to bring enjoyment and connection to the natural world, and help limit the amount of waste you might produce day-to-day. On this journey of holistic sustainability, I have tried my hardest to make the best choices. Everything we do has an impact! Somewhere, someone or something is linked to the choices we make every day – like the creation and shipping of products – but within that, we can try to do the best we can. Being mindful of our carbon footprint and trying to offset these impacts in manageable, accessible ways is a great place to start. Where better to do that than with the planting of trees? They are our life-givers and a great, practical way to offset carbon emissions!

What are some other businesses that you think are doing well in the environmental space?

I love Passenger Clothing as a business and believe they are doing well in the environmental space. I also really admire Refill, based out of Chelmsford in the United Kingdom. They are consistently engaging in sustainable practices; sourcing local products and eliminating unnecessary packaging as well as no single-use plastic. Lastly, Hodmedods is a great business to support. They work with British farmers to provide pulses and grains from fair and sustainable UK production.

What does climate change mean to Green Soul Grace?

To me, climate change means climate justice; addressing the historical and ongoing exploitation of resources and colonization which has led us here, deconstructing these systems, and moving forward in a way that isn’t simply repeating the same actions. Due to the unequal distribution of wealth and exploitation of resources, I believe that the communities that are the least equipped to deal with climate change are affected the most.

Do you have any other tips on how to incorporate sustainability into one’s everyday life?

My advice is to start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can. You don’t need fancy or expensive equipment. We can all make simple individual changes that can reduce the number of resources we use or the waste we produce. And then, when possible, take your individual actions and amplify them into something bigger. How you vote, how you organize and show solidarity to global causes can make a big impact. Both individual and system change are needed to combat the climate crisis we are faced with.
