Huha began with a determination to make the most basic, under-innovated garment better.

During Earth Month 2022, Huha planted 1 tree for every order placed in April. The Brief, Low-Profile Thong & the Cheeky were among the top best-selling products during Earth Month. These orders largely contributed to the number of trees that were planted.

In partnership with TreeEra, Huha planted a total of 1,996 mangrove trees. That equates to 369,260 lbs of cO2 removed from the atmosphere!โ

We love Huhaโ€™s motto of โ€œbetter for you, better for the planetโ€. You incorporate sustainability throughout your business, not just planting trees during Earth Month, can you share with us some of the ways youโ€™ve done this?

From raw materials and manufacturing processes to packing methods, garment lifetime, and even our own growth as a business, sustainability matters.

Huha is on a mission to turn underwear into “undercare”. Can you tell us a bit about how Huha was started and what mineral undies are all about? Two women hugging while wearing eco-friendly, sustainable underwear and bra set.

Our lives as women are tricky enough. The last thing we need is discomfort around our sensitive areas.

Our founder, Alexa decided to create Huha, and our first product line – Mineral Undies – after a duration of recurrent UTIโ€™s, during which time she monitored her lifestyle activities (including her underwear). This led her to researching what materials and fabrics are most commonly used in womenโ€™s underwear (polyester, nylon, synthetics & cotton).

After noticing how much better she felt when steering away from synthetics, Alexa began researching what better fabrics there could be out there. Que TENCELโ„ข Lyocell and TENCELโ„ข Modal x Micro, the super soft tree-derived fabrics that make up our Mineral Undies.ย

Compared to polyester, synthetics, and even cotton, there is less available moisture formed on the surface of TENCELโ„ข Lyocell fibers for bacteria to grow. Consequently, TENCELโ„ข Lyocell fibers provide a less favorable environment for bacterial growth.

All Huha undies are protected with minerals – smartcelโ„ข sensitive is an innovative fiber permanently embedded with zinc oxide. Zinc oxide possesses antibacterial and odor-reducing properties to protect the garment and ensure long-lasting performance.

Our unique liner is the first of its kind with fuller coverage, greater support, and freedom from uncomfortable gusset seams that lead to sensory overload.

At Huha we take underwear seriously, and want to provide the comfiest and healthiest undies for women of all shapes and sizes so that people who wear our underwear can feel their best and most confident selves!

Why are trees important to Huha?

TENCELโ„ข Lyocell fibers are derived from sustainably managed forests. TENCELโ„ข Modal x Micro fibers are mainly manufactured from the renewable raw material beech wood, sourced from sustainable forests in Austria and neighboring countries. In addition, smartcelโ„ข sensitive is made from FSC-certified wood. Therefore without trees, it would be impossible for us to have the sustainable and breathable fabric that makes up Huha Mineral Undies.

Other than our product, it is important to Huha that we look after the planet we are lucky to live on. We wanted to celebrate Earth Month by planting a tree for every order placed in the month of April. Each Mangrove tree we planted with Tree Era equates to 185 lbs of CO2 removed from the atmosphere. Trees are incredibly important to the environment, and that is why they are important to Huha.

As an eCommerce business leading the way in sustainability, where do you think other online retailers can make small changes with a big impact?

For small changes, start by looking into how you are packaging your products, and try to reduce plastic as much as possible.ย

Itโ€™s really important to be aware of how your products are being made. Do your research and find suppliers that have the same goals as you when it comes to producing sustainable products. Ask them about their materials, any chemicals that are being used, and the entire product creation process. If something flags up, you might be able to work with them to come up with a solution that is better for your company and the environment.ย

Donโ€™t be afraid to reach out to other brands that have similar goals/values as your own and ask if they have any recommendations for you. The Huha team is always open to having conversations with other small businesses to see how we can help each other. Especially when it comes to something as sacred as the planet we live on.ย

If cost is a concern, have a conversation with your customers. You might be shocked to find that they could be willing to pay a bit more for your products if they were better for the environment. And if not, youโ€™re likely to gain another group of customers just by having that transparency and showing the effort you are going to, to create a sustainable business!

TreeEra would like to thank Huha for their amazing efforts at making our planet a better place.
