For Earth Day 2021, INNHotels partnered with TreeEra to plant one tree for every room booking they received on April 23rd and in the process planted a total of 70 trees! Can you introduce yourself to TreeEra readers?
INNHotels is a family of independent hotels with ten properties across BC and Alberta. We are aware of the importance of contributing to the environment in a positive way and we are committed to following sustainable management practices. All of our properties are either Sustainable Tourism Certified or in the process of being certified!

What are your main challenges when following sustainable hotel practices?
The hospitality industry has a huge impact on the environment and is a large contributor to waste creation and energy/water consumption. By investing in sustainable initiatives, we hope to offset some of our negative effects on the environment. Recycling, composting, reducing single-use plastic, and using energy-efficient appliances are only a few steps we are taking soย far. It is an ongoing process and there is always more that can be done.

Why did INNHotels decide to take environmental action?
All companies are in a position where they can lead by example and encourage others to be a part of the solution. This is why we have decided to commit to following sustainable management practices and we will encourage others to do the same. It is important to invest in companies such as TreeEra, who are also committed to helping the environment and offsetting the negative impacts humans have on it. Whether it is through donating, volunteering, or spreading the word of these organizations, it all helps. No one can do it alone! It is a community effort, both locally and globally.
What are your thoughts about the shift in climate change?

INNHotels acknowledges the importance of investing in sustainable management. We recognize there is a growing concern amongst the general population about climate change. We feel this has to do with all the information being broadcast through multimedia. We hope people will take the time to truly educate themselves on the negative AND positive effects of what one’s actions have on our environment.
