Earth Day 2019 – How Beans Are Planting Trees

Since the first Earth Day in 1970, April 22nd has become a day that inspires individuals from all walks of life to connect with nature and discover ways to protect our planet. This year, we wanted to take some time to share with you one of our TreeEra #Communitree members, Calgary Heritage Roasting Company, and everything they do to cherish the wilderness.
Our friends at Calgary Heritage Roasting Co. (CHRC) are all too familiar with how the effects of climate change can devastate our forests. Before starting Calgary Heritage Roasting Company, both Mike and Jamie worked fighting wildfires in Alberta in British Columbia. Their wildfire-fighting days might be behind them now, but the time they spent protecting our forests built within them a desire to always give back to nature.

Jamie was a rappel wildland firefighter for four years, was stationed in Lac La Biche, Whitecourt, and Hinton but traveled to the far reaches of Alberta fighting forest fires and protecting communities. One of Jamieโs fondest memories was when he was dispatched to Calgary and High River. During this export, he worked alongside the RCMP and Military saving pets from flooded homes by boat and assisting in flood reclamation.

Mike was a unit crew wildland firefighter for a season based out of Rocky Mountian House before starting Calgary Heritage Roasting Co. With an incredibly busy fire season, Mike spent most of his time on export in Northern Alberta for campaigners lasting 20-24 days. One of the most incredible experiencesย for Mike was having the opportunity to fight fires for a two-week campaign in the beautiful and remote Northwest Territories.
CHRC was built by the wilderness that drives it. They marry fresh and bold coffee with the urge to explore. As a company, they found their inspiration over a percolated cup of coffee on a backpacking trip one morning in the rolling hills of Alberta, Canada. Since then, the company’s foundation continues to grow and evolve during backyard BBQs, weekend mountain adventures, cold ones with friends, and late nights under star-filled skies.
So, when they approached us here at TreeEra to collaborate, it was a no brainer. We all shared a deep love of nature and a desire to do everything we could to protect it. Now, when you’re out hiking, camping, and exploring you can bring with you a coffee that’s doing double time: keeping you caffeinated and fighting climate change.
For the month of April, head to your local Calgary Co-op to grab a bag of Tall Timber. Forย every bag you buy, we plant a tree!โฃ It’s that simple.
โฃYou keep brewing, we’ll keep planting, and together we can plant one billion trees.
