Planting Some Good: Downtown Calgary Marriott x TreeEra

The annual Ride The Roof fundraiser is an event that our team looks forward to each year. It brings together an amazing group of Calgarians on the beautiful (and generously donated) Calgary Marriott Downtown rooftop to get a good sweat on, community fund the planting of trees, and raise money and awareness for a cause near and dear to our hearts, the Love For Lewiston Foundation. The Love for Lewiston Foundation is a family-run organization that exists to create awareness and raise funds focused on treatments and finding a cure for the devastating disease of Spinal Muscular Atrophy through SMA Research and The Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Traditionally, Ride The Roof has consisted of a series of three spin classes with 100 people in attendance for each. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances around the pandemic, TreeEra, YYC Cycle, and Love For Lewiston made the tough call to put this event on pause for 2020.
While we may not have been able to clip-in and congregate like the good old days, we can still contribute in a small way by planting trees to honour this year’s event. This past month TreeEra and the Calgary Marriott Downtown partnered up to plant 190 trees, one for every guest staying at the hotel during the ride week, to commemorate this dearly missed event.
Each tree planted through this initiative can offset 165 lbs of CO2, and 190 trees have the power to offset the guest use of 68,814 rolls of toilet paper.
Though this year’s event was unable to take place, the Love For Lewiston Foundation’s need for support is continuous. For more information on donations and to keep the momentum going click here.
