Before this project, the mangrove forests in this area were severely impacted by deforestation from charcoal production and wood collection for cooking, construction, and other purposes. Now, in partnership with the local community this massive mangrove estuary.
Antsanitia
The project areas have deep-water mangrove estuaries that open to the sea and are surrounded by large swaths of mangrove forest. These estuaries are a vital fish nursery for the surrounding ocean and barrier reefs and is an important fishing ground for local Malagasy.
